Human Conflict - Issue of Radicalization

Introductory Comments

The issue of radicalization has gained prominence since the events of September 11, 2001 and more recently since the rise of the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) in 2014.  It is loosely tied to such events because radicalization is the step that leads to extremist views which can then lead to terrorist acts.

These are enormous global topics (for instance, one person’s terrorist can be another person’s freedom fighter). Even restricting the topic to Canada the subject can range from the FLQ to ethnic variations (the Tamil community) to religious variations (the Sikh community).

Due to resource constraints, the topic below will be restricted to its most prominent form currently - radicalization within Canada that is associated with the recruitment to ISIS.
