Fair Trade

The Fair Trade concept was created years ago as an attempt to help impoverished farmers break the cycles of poverty and debt that they were trapped in.  Fair Trade encompasses a wide range of items.  For now we are focused on coffee (tea and sugar can also often be found).  

Within a congregational budget, Fair Trade items such as coffee belong under the Initiative “Abolish Poverty, End Suffering.”  Thus any congregation that decides to buy fair trade coffee should remove their coffee expense from “Kitchen Expense” and place it under the “Abolish Poverty” item, since buying fair trade coffee helps coffee farmers break out of the poverty cycle.
