Sacredness of All Life

All life is sacred! In our creation story, God pronounces all creation as good, emanating forth from God’s creative powers.  Of course the story also indicates how that created intention for goodness has been distorted or corrupted. But that sense of goodness remains a founding principle that anchors our sense of place - all was meant for goodness and we must be agents under God’s influence to bring about God’s goodness.

Scientifically we know both how fragile and resilient is the grand swirl of life within the planetary ecosystem.  While originally Christianity primarily had a sense of “dominion over” nature, It now engenders a sense of sacred stewardship, and an intricate place for us within nature and its complex layers, interdependencies, and startling and essential diversity.

Genesis Chap. 1

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth . . .

. . . And God saw everything that God had made, and, behold, it was very good.”
